Normal people suddenly start acting strangely obsessed for some reason, the aftereffect of having their desires stolen by an unknown force. Speaking of the story, it starts with Joker and the gang find their summer plans interrupted by incidents that look eerily familiar. If you love Persona storytelling, you’ll be on Cloud 9 with this game. The game also has an impressive amount of voiced dialogue, something that Strikers definitely does not skimp on. It’s always a hot spring scene that goes awry. There’s even an homage to Persona 3 in the form of a hot spring scene gone awry. The dialogue has the same quality as a modern Persona title, featuring the same great localization and hilarious discourse between characters. So much so that Strikers almost feels like a sequel.

It’s a chunky narrative full of twists and turns that would be right at home on a mainline Persona 5 game. Can I just say how great it is to see the gang together once again? This isn’t a cursory plot that feels like it was thrown together hastily to serve as a quick springboard to the action either. Strikers essentially picks up where Persona 5 left off, kicking off with a reunion by the Phantom Thieves after not being together for quite some time. In Persona 5 Strikers, it feels like you’re going through the obligatory action segments in order to get to the story.

Other Warriors games felt like you had to go through the obligatory story segments to get to the meat and bones of the game, which is the action. Storytelling proudly stands front and center in Persona 5 Strikers. Forget about storytelling getting short shrift in Warriors games. Where P5 Strikers really doubles down - nay, triples down - is the narrative. From its use of Persona 5’s distinct art style to its funky music and flashy production overall, Strikers practically screams, well, Persona. It’s also the best Warriors game so far in terms of striking a balance between story and that familiar Warriors action.įor its part, Persona 5 Strikers also caters heavily to fans of Persona 5. But Age of Calamity went beyond with its narrative, serving up an intriguing story that makes it a must-play for fans of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, even if they don’t necessarily like Warriors games. Admittedly, the latter isn’t a high bar given the sparse nature of storytelling in Warriors games. 1,000 action with an addicting character-building mechanic while serving up the best storytelling I’ve seen in a Warriors game to date.

That game is arguably the best one in the Warriors franchise upon its release, mixing the series’ trademark one vs. In fact, storytelling is also a big reason why I really enjoyed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on the Nintendo Switch. I’m also one of those people who have griped all these years about how I wish storytelling in Warriors games wasn’t treated as an afterthought so imagine my surprise after seeing Strikers address just exactly that.
